Jesus, Servant of All Servants

The ordinance of foot washing, according to Jesus, is to teach each of us humility

Preceding the Lord’s Supper, it puts in check all who esteem themselves highly

It’s to bring man out of selfishness, leading professed Christians to serve one another

This is the example set by Jesus while on earth, though He is our Lord and Saviour

Pitcher, basin, and towel at hand, kneeling before our brethren as a maid or man servant

When the love of God is in our hearts, this consecrated ceremony won’t be quenched

Before or thereafter this formal religious occasion, pray for one another and sing songs

Continually observing this decree until Christ returns along with His heavenly throng
